In 1989, the Department of Histology and Embryology of LNMU organized the first in the Soviet Union lectinhistochemistry laboratory, where during the following 25 years were trained many morphologists from Ukraine and Russia. Using purified lectins in the laboratory during this time, about 30 theses were defended there. Today it is the only laboratory in Ukraine,  where  the  cleaning,  characterization  and testing  in  histochemistry  of  new  and  conventional lectins from the raw materials of the Carpathian region are  being  performed.  The  results  of  the  scientist’s researches are summarized in the monographs “Lectins” (1980) and “Lectins in Histochemistry” (1989).

O. D. Lutsyk is the co-author of the first and still the only one in Ukraine textbook of histology, cytology and embryology  for  students  of  medical  universities  and academies.  The  book  was  published  in  1992;  got  the State  Award  of  Ukraine  in  Science  and  Technology (1994);  since  then  this  book  ran  into  four  re-editions (1993, 2003, 2010, 2013); it is translated into Russian (2013). O. D. Lutsyk has got Yaroslav Mudry Award of Sciences Academy of Higher School of Ukraine for the published in 1999 “Atlas of oral cavity microanatomy”. O. D. Lutsyk is also the co-author of the translation into Ukrainian  of  the  “International  histological  terms” (editions  of  1993,  2001,  2010),  Dorland’s  Illustrated Medical  Dictionary  (editions  of  2003,  2007), “Langman’s  Medical  Embryology”  after  T.Sadler (2001), “Atlas of Human Anatomy” by F.
